Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) is a non-ionic cellulose ether produced from cotton and wood through processes such as alkalization, propylene oxide etherification, and chloromethane etherification. It possesses excellent dispersing, emulsifying, thickening, binding, water-retaining, and coating properties, making it a thickener, binder, humectant, dispersant, suspending agent, emulsifier, and stabilizer. It is widely used in various fields including building materials, coatings, ceramics, daily chemicals, textiles, food, and synthetic resins.

It is widely used in tile adhesives, interior and exterior wall putties, tile joint fillers, self-leveling mortars, foundation leveling mortars, bonding plastering mortars, powder coatings (mainly cement-based and stone plastering), latex powder polystyrene granules, and thermal insulation mortars.
